Dr. Desais interdisciplinary research focuses on biochemical approaches to rational drug design. These approaches include biophysical spectroscopic techniques, enzyme kinetics, site-directed mutagenesis, organic synthesis, and molecular modeling. Targeted areas of drug design are: activators of antithrombin that function as anticoagulants, engineering inhibitory properties in corticosteroid binding globulin and serpin mechanism. Understanding sugarprotein and steroidprotein interactions at a molecular level guides the rational drug design.
